SNIFTag -- Pet Monitoring and Social Networking Device

Many pet owners wonder what their pets are up to when they are not around. In a post earlier this fall, Super Cool Pets featured the Panasonic Network Camera and Pet Cam, which allows you to monitor your pet's activities via the web when you are off-prem.
In a similar, but different vein, the SNIFTag is a new product from a Boston-based company founded by a group of MIT Media Laboratory graduates. This device also allows you to monitor your dog's activity while you're away. It attaches to your dog's collar and records your pet's activities and interactions with other people and pets. The data is uploaded to the company's website where the pet owner can log in and see what their pup has been up to.
The SNIFTag senses proximity to other SNIF devices using low-power wireless technology. It is not a tracking device--for that, a GPS Dog Tracking System is required.
The SNIFTag was also designed as a social networking tool for pet owners. The goal is to create a community to keep in touch with your pet's friends, to meet and befriend other pet owners, and share helpful information and pet tips online.

SNIFTag will retail for $299, but you can grab it now for an introductory price of $199 under November 24th. The Starter Kit includes: 1 SNIF® Tag, 1 SNIF® Base Station, 2 additional rims, 2 additional faceplates, 1 SNIF® Tag Key, 1 small collar clasp, 1 medium collar clasp, 1 A/C power adapter, 1 Ethernet cable, 1 USB cable, 1 instruction manual.
