Cat condos add a lot of fun, exercise, relaxation and comfort to the lives of our kitties but often they don't really add much of a decorative touch to our homes. The Cat Resort is an attractive replica tree that will bring good things to both your indoor cat and your decor.
The Cat Resort consists of a handmade tree supported by a base and three perches for your cat to explore, jump or simply relax. The silk leaves provide privacy and hiding spots as well as places to play. The perches each have their own entrances and swivel for positioning with removable carpets for cleaning.

As we write this, ole man winter is blowing through northern regions of the US. No matter what the weather conditions, our pets must brave the raw outdoors to do their business (unless of course they enjoy the luxury of an indoor potty).
We are all about fleece this year for staying warm and cozy. This sharp-looking Fleece Dog Jacket is sort of a horse blanket for dogs. It goes on quickly, using only two hook-and-loop fasteners on the chest and belly for a snug, comfortable fit.

A few years ago, our sweet Golden returned from a romp in the yard reeking of skunk spray. Stressful enough, but we also had family visiting with little children. We deployed the traditional treatment of tomato juice, but Dr. Karen Becker claims it isn't nearly as effective as this easy recipe.
If skunks are hibernating where you are, you have plenty of time to stock up on the ingredients. Bookmark this post for quick access when it warms up in the spring, and they are out poking around for beetles.
Skunk Rinse Recipe
• 1 quart hydrogen peroxide -- 3% first aid antiseptic solution
• ¼ cup baking soda
• 2 teaspoons Dawn dishwashing liquid
If you have a larger breed dog like we do, you may need to double, triple or even quadruple the mixture depending on how much territory you need to cover.
Hydrogen peroxide is a mild bleaching agent, so wear old work clothes. You may also want to wear rubber gloves.
Mix up in a bucket and apply the solution to your pet's dry coat. Start from the collar and move back toward the tail. Keep it away from your pet's eyes because the hydrogen peroxide solution can burn them. After the dog has been bathed in this solution rinse him/her down with the hose.

Yesterday we addressed cabin fever for our cat, but our dogs have become stir crazy as well, though they are good girls. Always begging for food, nothing else to do. With obvious caveats, we have decided to enjoy the benefit of no-slobber, hands-free play and bring our Chuckit! fetch game indoors.
This Chuckit! Indoor Launcher is perfect for when it's too cold, too wet, or you just want to hang out inside with your best pal.

But as the days turn to weeks, months and years, we find our attachment to our golden retriever twins only deepens. If you feel the same way about your aging pets, you know that a longer life also means our pets suffer more age-related conditions.

Ever wish your indoor cat could be an outdoor cat and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells while staying safe? According to Training a Cat to Walk on a Leash | NYTimes.com, more and more animal behaviorists, such as trainer Jackson Galaxy quoted below, are convinced that training and walking cats is not only possible, but good for the cat.
First equip yourself with a cat leash, such as this Come with me Kitty Harness to obtain gentle and comfortable control of your cat or kitten for your outdoor excursions. Next, follow these tips from Jackson Galaxy for training your cat on a leash:
1. Know your cat. If it doesn't mind being handled, is pretty confident and not easily spooked, it's probably a good candidate for leash training.
2. Get the right gear. It is not safe to walk cats on a traditional collars; if they escape up a tree, a breakaway collar will detach, while a standard collar can strangle them.
3. Hungry is good. Many cats respond to food treats, so start with a hungry cat. Cut treats into tiny pieces, because when a cat gets full, it will stop working. Only give the cat treats when you're doing the training, and limit the overall amount.
4. Start small. In the first session, place the harness on the cat with confidence, and fit it snugly but not tightly. The moment you've finished putting it on, give your cat a treat.
5. Set goals. Push the cat a little farther each day, by breaking up leash walking into small steps. When it walks around each new area with its tail up, it's ready for the next step.
6. Expect some setbacks. If the cat is afraid of something, try to redirect its attention to another area. If the cat completely freaks out, retreat to the previous area you were walking until it is confident again. Try not to pick up the cat, which erases its confidence.
7. Be careful if your neighborhood has lots of off-leash dogs; consider taking the cat to an area that's more protected.
Come with me Kitty Harness is available in many colors:
