Pets truly are members of our families. Next time you do Disney, you can bring your pets along, unless they have scales and hiss a lot. Walt Disney World is scheduled to open Best Friends Pet Care this August 27, providing the usual boarding services, but also bedtime stories and a water park for dogs, just for starters.
The luxury facility will accommodate 270 dogs, 30 cats and assorted other animals, including birds, potbellied pigs and small mammals such as hamsters and guinea pigs. Sorry, no reptiles.
Upgrades for dogs include ice cream treats, bottled water and premium/orthopedic bedding. Your pampered pooches can enjoy vacation villas with outdoor patios and flat-screen TVs for watching videos or 226-square-foot luxury suites with private outdoor play yards and personal pet concierges. Cats can choose between two- and four-story condos along with tuna on a Ritz, their own cushy bed and special toy.
Other services offered at Best Friends are day care, play groups, outdoor runs, walking trails and areas for playing ball or Frisbee. And if you miss your best buddy, owner visits are welcomed!

Amazon Hot New Pet Book Release -- An Eagle Named Freedom: My True Story of a Remarkable Friendship
If you are interested in the spiritual bonds humans form with their pets, here is an inspiring tale for you. When we are lucky enough to spot a soaring eagle above, we admire their majesty and beauty, but don't generally feel all warm and fuzzy. That's why this unusual story by Jeff Guidry, An Eagle Named Freedom: My True Story of a Remarkable Friendship
, caught our eye, telling the tale of how the author rehabilitated an eagle who bonded with him during his battle with cancer.
From the moment Jeff Guidry saw the emaciated baby eagle with broken wings, his life was changed. For weeks he and the staff at Sarvey Wildlife Care Center tended to the grievously injured bird. Miraculously, she recovered, and Jeff, a center volunteer, became her devoted caretaker.
Though Freedom would never fly, she had Jeff as her wings. And after Jeff was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2000, Freedom returned his gift. Between sessions of debilitating chemotherapy, Jeff went back to Sarvey and began taking Freedom for walks that soothed his spirit and gave him the strength to fight. When he learned he was cancer free, Jeff's first stop was Sarvey to walk with Freedom. Somehow this special bird seemed to understand the significance of the day. For the very first time she wrapped both her wings around Jeff, enveloping him in an avian hug.
