Fetch! Pet Care

logo2.jpg

Fetch! Pet Care is a franchise offering professional pet sitting and dog walking services. A while back, my mother was in the hospital and my father came down with that grisly stomach bug that went around last winter. They have a huge, "Marley"-style Gordon Setter who needed walking. What to do? How much can you ask of your friends?

Wish we had known about Fetch!. They offer the following services:

* Private Dog Walks
* Off-Leash Doggie Playgroups
* Cat and Small Pet Visits
* In-Home Overnight Sitting
* 'Go Fetch!' Four-Legged Fitness Service
* Private Dog Boarding
* Doggie Day or Evening Care
* Pet Taxi
* Yard Poop Cleanup
* Home Care
* Special Request Services, such as pet medication, baths, food and supply delivery.

What's not to love? Check and see if there is one near you!

Cat Playpen

playpen_l.jpg

Vigilance is key with many indoor cats. They can be similar to toddlers--always running off. Most of the time you can watch them as you leave or enter. But in a busier situation when it is hard to shut them in one room, during a party, while moving, home repair, etc., this Cat Play Pen would come in handy.

The playpen has two entry doors: the top entry is 11-1/2" x 8-1/2" and the lower entry is 20" x 8-1/2". It comes with two plastic benches, each 24" x 8, and has wheeled plastic base. The cage is wire with a black epoxy electro-finish, so they can watch what is going on.

Dimensions: 36" x 24" wide x 48" high. Available from Cat Play Pen

Pet Food Recipes

CM-L5.jpg

With the pet food recall and overall uncertainty about which products will be listed next, now may be a good time for home-made food. For those who enjoy cooking, and even those who don't, preparing your pet's meals for awhile can provide a sense of security that at least you know what is in the food.

There is a link posted for many good recipes on our fellow Blogpire site, The Cooking News. Check it out!

Dogopoly or Catopoly Anyone?

Dogopoly.jpg

Children love to play games, and it is a good way to educate them as well. I have very fond memories of playing games with my grandparents. Whether you have children or grandchildren, or just love Monopoly, Dog-opoly would be a fun way to while away a few hours on a rainy afternoon.

It is just like the classic Monopoly game we all know and love, but with a dog theme. Players can learn facts about dogs while they play. The idea is to buy dogs, rather than real estate. The game board features some of the world's most popular dogs, and the back of each deed offers fun facts about different breeds. Entertaining and educational!

Includes dog-themed pieces, paper money and a game board. For 2-6 players.

Cat-opoly also available for cat-lovers.

Pet Food Recall Extends to Biscuits

Update on pet food recall. Word is that biscuits sold at Wal-Mart are involved. ABC News has a current recall list. Outrageous does not describe it. Listening to a news report today on MSNBC tv, rumor has it that melamine artificially ups the protein content in pet food, which would allow for a price increase.

Greed. Not worth my pets' health. Stay tuned, and watch your pets closely for vomiting (of course our huntress Molly decided to go that route, but probably gecko ingestion) and lethargy.

Understand Your Pets--Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior

dtb826_c.jpg

Ever wonder what your pets are saying and thinking? Haven't we all?

Super Cool Pets found this fascinating study, Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior by Temple Grandin, to be an eye-opener:

Among its provocative ideas, the book:

*argues that language is not a requirement for consciousness -- and that animals do have consciousness

*applies the autism theory of "hyper-specificity" to animals, showing that animals and autistic people are so sensitive to detail that they "can't see the forest for the trees" -- a talent as well as a "deficit"

*explores the "interpreter" in the normal human brain that filters out detail, leaving people blind to much of the reality that surrounds them -- a reality animals and autistic people see, sometimes all too clearly...

*maintains that the single worst thing you can do to an animal is to make it feel afraid.

Recommended read for any animal lover who wishes to understand pets better. Animals in Translation: Using the Mysteries of Autism to Decode Animal Behavior
