Pet lovers know--their fur is everywhere--on our clothes, face, furniture, everywhere. Pet hair removal is a constant challenge. You may not have heard of this solution -- rubber gloves.

The trick is to wet your gloves slightly with water and run your hands over the surface of your clothes, furniture, etc. Be sure to pat dry the surface afterwards.

Celebrating Easter? Beware of These Pet Hazards

easterdog.jpg

Many of us will be celebrating Easter this Sunday. Despite their religious origins, many of our American holidays tend to revolve around chocolate, and Easter is no exception. A reminder that chocolate, especially the dark, is toxic to dogs.

2012EasterCat.jpg

Easter is also associated with lilies. All parts of the lovely lily plant are poisonous to cats, including the petals, the leaves, the stem, and the pollen. Even the water from the vase can cause kidney failure in your cat when ingested.

eastergrass.jpg

Finally, the fake Easter grass the Easter bunny uses to pack the baskets can be a a hazard. That stringy grass can become a linear foreign body, tying around a pet's tongue or intestines, resulting in severe damage to the intestinal tract.

Belling the Cat May Save the Backyard Birds

belledcat.jpg

The alarming news is out that outdoor cats apparently kill billions of wild birds as they roam about the countryside. "Researchers estimate that one pet cat kills one to 34 birds a year, while a feral cat kills 23 to 46 birds annually."

Most household cats get plenty to eat without needing to rely on hunting for sustenance. A Baltimore Sun reader, Sandy Summers, reminds us that "belling the cat"--securing a small bell to the cat's collar--warns the backyard birds of the impending danger.
