Pet Scoop: U.S. Spending on Pets Up More than 7% in 2012

petsupplies.jpg

The U.S. economy may still be in a recession, but as a country we don't scrimp when it comes to our pets. In 2012 Americans spent around $53 billion on pet food, veterinary care, kennels and other pet services, according to Puppy love: Over $53 billion spent on pets in U.S. last year | Detroit Free Press. Most of that money went to necessities:

At about $34.3 billion, food and vet care represented about two-thirds of total spending, with money spent on supplies and over-the-counter medications rising by more than 7%. Spending on the growing market of alternative vet care, such as acupuncture, totaled about $12.5 billion.

This year another 4% gain in spending on pet supplies is predicted.

Birdseed Moth Traps Help Keep Your Food Fresh and Moth-Free

BirdseedMothTrap.jpg

Feeding the wild birds is a popular American hobby, second only to gardening. That means there's a lot of bird seed lying around our homes and garages. Often that birdseed is contaminated with moths which then infest other nearby grain products--cereal, flour, cookies, pasta.

A Birdseed Moth Trap captures the moths in your home that contaminate birdseed, with a lure that attracts flour moths, meal moths, seed moths, and most other food moths. Each disposable trap will work up to three months.

Buster Dog Maze -- Fun Feeder to Slow Down Eating

BusterDogMaze.jpg

It's a rare dog that does not "wolf" down their food--clearly a genetic trait. Many of them also throw up a lot. We don't know if the two are related, but maybe it's time to slow things down a bit. This Buster Dog Maze increases the length of mealtimes.

The dog must figure out how to work out the food from the curvy maze before they can eat it. It can also be used as a fun way to feed treats when your dog gets bored. The one-size Maze is available in 3 colors: black, beige and grey.
