Biodegradable Olive Unisex and Super Poop Bags

Rather than scooping pet poop into petroleum-based plastic bags which slowly break down over the centuries in landfills, why not try putting the 100% biodegradable pet poop into equally biodegradable pick-up bags?

Olive Unisex Poop Bags and Olive Super Poop Bags are made naturally from GMO-free corn starch and vegetable oil, are certified 100% biodegradable and compost in as little as 40 days.

Available in two convenient sizes -- Unisex Poop Bags (small) and Super Poop Bags (large).

TRIX Tick Remover System -- Pen-Style Lasso Device

One of the grosser parts of pet ownership is tick removal. Dispose of embedded ticks without even touching them with this Trix Tick Remover. It uses a unique lasso technique, which enables the quick and easy removal of all common ticks.

Its long and narrow design makes it easy to use in pet ears, thick fur and other difficult and narrow places. The remover also works very well even if fur or hair comes into the loop.

All-Natural Mosquito-Repellent Dog Tags from Bug Bam

During peak mosquito season, we are reluctant to let our dogs outdoors for too long after dark for fear of the suffering those little buggers can cause, especially transmitting heartworm disease. June 21-27th is National Mosquito Control Awareness Week. Bet you didn't know there was such a thing!

Many areas even endure heavy mosquito infestation during the day. Bug Bam products work by emitting the insect-repellent scents of all natural, plant-based essential oils, masking the human and pet smells that attract mosquitoes. Research has shown Bug Bam's main ingredient, geraniol, to be an effective plant-based mosquito repellent.

Bug Bam Pet Tags use the scent of 100% natural essential oils to repel mosquitoes without using the potentially harmful chemicals found in flea collars and traditional topical applications. Bug Bam's all natural ingredients can also repel fleas and ticks.

Each tag lasts up to 15 days, with 2 tags per pack for 30 days of protection. To prolong the life of the tags, try removing them (especially during non-peak infestation periods and when the dogs are inside) and sealing them in plastic bags to maintain the smell until the dogs go out again or for use after dark.

Not recommended for our cats as they generally dislike the scent of citronella oil, which is based on geraniol.

Kurgo Auto Zip Line Dog Safety Harness

We all know it is safer not to let our pets roam free in the back seat on car rides, but many dogs chafe at being tightly constrained in a harness.

If this describes your dog, the Kurgo Auto Zip-Line lets your dogs pace from left to right in the back seat, but keeps them restrained and safer during sudden stops.

The line is basically nylon webbing that attaches between the two rear passenger side handles and is easy to install in any car or SUV. It's similar to the earlier featured Kurgo K9 Truck Tether which secures your dog directly behind a pickup truck cab.

The Kurgo dog harness and leash (sold separately) work in conjunction with the Auto Zip Line to go easily from pavement to vehicle.

In all sizes, S to XL Kurgo Auto Zip Line

PetScoop: Palladia Receives FDA Approval as First Drug to Treat Cancer in Dogs

Teal Paws Cure Dog T-Shirt
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first drug developed specifically for the treatment of cancer in dogs. Palladia, manufactured by Pfizer Animal Health Inc, is targeted at canine cutaneous mast cell tumors, responsible for about 1 of 5 cases of canine skin tumors.

This is a significant development. Up until now, all cancer drugs used in veterinary medicine originally were developed for use in humans and are not approved for use in animals. Reuters has the scoop:

Treatment with new cancer drugs for humans tends to cost tens of thousands of dollars per patient, and the majority of pet owners do not have health insurance for their dogs.

Pet Health Insurance For Cats & Dogs
Perhaps another reason to consider Health Insurance For Pets.

National Association of Professional Pet Sitters Preparedness Guide For Pet Owners

Each year, two to three million of us suffer as the result of disasters, and as was painfully apparent during Katrina, our pets do too. After a natural disaster everyone is pretty much on their own, at least for the first few days, as we have discussed in a prior disaster preparation post.

The National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) has created NAPPS Disaster Preparedness Guide For Pet Owners to read and download, so animal owners can be prepared for man-made or natural catastrophes.

The operative word here is prepared. Preparation is key to surviving a disaster, as well as succeeding in any endeavor, as Amanda Ripley so aptly explains in her must-read guide The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - and Why.
