Now that Daylight Savings Time is over, many of us are walking our dogs in the dark once again. As cars zip around the streets, staying safe can be a challenge.

If you have tile or hardwood floors in your home, you know it may be difficult for your dogs to gain traction on the slippery surfaces. These non-skid Power Paws
socks help our older dogs with mobility issues, arthritis or hip dysplasia, and our younger ones too, after surgery or when playing.
Tile floors get cold in the winter--these socks will keep paws warm. And for those times you break a glass or dish, the socks can help prevent paw injuries from unseen shards.
Power Paws
socks come in different styles for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and in various colors. Made of breathable cotton with additional elastic for fit and rubber treads for traction. So cute!

Giving our pets a pill is often a challenge. We have known a dog who meticulously eats around the pill and leaves it in the bowl. Even submerging in peanut butter sometimes doesn't work. And don't even think about giving a pill to the cat.
This handheld Automatic Pill Grinder
is just the ticket if you live with a pet (or human) who can't or won't swallow pills. Just grind their tablet-type pills straight in to their food or beverage--problem solved!

As we batten down the hatches this fall, we may start to notice a pervasive pet smell a little more than when balmy breezes were wafting through our rooms. To absorb pet odors (or any other kind) from the air in your home, Apartment Therapy recommends stashing a few charcoal briquettes
around the house:
As for how to distribute them, you can simply lay a few out in a metal tray. Other options: sew pouches for them or use an old sock, then hang them in inconspicuous areas. Line a basket with foil or plastic and lay the briquettes inside. Or simply set them out on a tray on a shelf or side table: the black little pillows actually look kind of cool!
Be sure to stick with the natural briquettes such as Kingsford Original Charcoal Briquets
and avoid the mesquite briquettes or ones with easy-light additives.

Hundreds, thousands of birds are injured, maimed and killed world-wide upon contact with reflective glass windows and panels. Birds see trees or the sky in the glass and fly right smack into it at their peril.
To make the glass more visible to birds, compassionate residential bird lovers often use closely-spaced opaque window decals
, or stencils painted with tempera as a warning. Recently conservationist and ecologically-minded designers have promoted glass as a building material, and it has gained popularity in the form of transparent panels. Likewise, the bird/glass fatality problem has become more complex.
The New York Times recently reported on an innovative new type of glass called Ornilux, made by Arnold Glas of Remshalden, Germany. The glass is made with a patterned coating that reflects ultraviolet light, visible to birds, but still transparent to the human eye. It is, of course, more expensive than regular glass.

We have featured this Slow Down Pet Bowl
in plastic in a prior post (see Brake-Fast Bowl). It helps slow the pace of eating for pets gobble their food too quickly for their own good. This Ceramic Slow Down Bowl
is a more heavy-duty version. Ceramic bowls are more stable and durable than plastic, plus they don't absorb toxins and are easier to clean. And they don't slide across the floor as easily.
This bowl features a raised bone shape in the middle, plus raised semicircles to keep your pet from grabbing at his/her kibble, and therefore take in too much food too quickly. (Sound like anyone you know?) The bowl may help prevent some digestive problems and even the deadly bloat. The Ceramic Slow Down Bowl
is dishwasher and microwave safe in Moss or Pewter.
