The U.S. economy may still be in a recession, but as a country we don't scrimp when it comes to our pets. At about $34.3 billion, food and vet care represented about two-thirds of total spending, with money spent on supplies and over-the-counter medications rising by more than 7%. Spending on the growing market of alternative vet care, such as acupuncture, totaled about $12.5 billion.
This year another 4% gain in spending on pet supplies is predicted.

The Emma Zen Foundation of Orange County, CA estimates that 40,000 family pets die annually due to fire and fire-related issues, according to Ventura County fire engines, rescue squads to carry oxygen masks for pets | KABC-TV Los Angeles, CA.
Due to their generous donations, each fire engine and rescue squad there will carry an assortment of masks and accessories that are shaped to fit muzzles and snouts of dogs, cats and other household pets.
